Turkey's Iraq policy

Turkish officials see the recent developments in Iraq following the collapse of the Saddam regime as a peculiar case with an uncertain future affecting Turkey's security. Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, right after Saddam Hussein's execution had disclosed that the case of Iraq has become a priority for Turkey even compared that of the European Union issue. The following aspects of developments in Iraq is concerning Turkish officals: The PKK that is at large in Northern Iraq; Kirkuk issue that seems to be incorporated into the Kurdistan region if a referendum is held at the end of this year, given the demographic changes occurred in the course of post-war years.
